In this guide
MSPortal, vCIOToolbox, Strategy Overview and myITprocess are candidates to evaluate as Narmada alternatives for vCIO work. Start by identifying whether you need to replace assessments, client planning or a broader operational workspace. Those requirements can lead to different shortlists, even within the same MSP.
Narmada alternatives at a glance
| Alternative | Our suggested evaluation focus | Bring to the demo |
|---|---|---|
| MSPortal | Client decisions connected to budgets and delivery | An approved recommendation with outstanding work |
| vCIOToolbox | Advisory and risk-management requirements | A review containing an unresolved risk |
| Strategy Overview | Assessment findings becoming initiatives | A finding that affects several planned projects |
| myITprocess | Repeatable standards and review preparation | A technical standard used across several clients |
This shortlist reflects editorial evaluation priorities. It does not establish feature parity or a performance ranking.
Decide how much of Narmada you are replacing
Narmada describes configurable assessments, weighted scoring, evidence attachments, roadmaps, budgets and client reporting. Its site also lists operational functions such as projects, tasks and time entries. An assessment-only comparison can therefore miss work your team currently does in the platform.
Inventory the records you need to retain. A score without the evidence and rationale behind it may be difficult for a new advisor to explain. Likewise, an exported report may preserve the client's view without preserving the editable assessment that produced it.
Write down which records need to remain editable, which can be archived and who must access each. Treat this as a migration requirement before evaluating presentation design.
1. MSPortal for client follow-through
MSPortal is our suggested candidate when the main problem is keeping recommendations connected to client decisions, budgets and project delivery. The vCIO workspace sits alongside other client-facing work.
For a useful demonstration, choose an assessment finding that has already become an approved project. Ask the client contact to find the reason for the work, the funding and the next action. Then change the expected delivery date and review what needs updating.
Validate: any required assessment scoring, evidence retention and operational workflows separately. Do not assume that a broader client workspace reproduces the exact assessment model you use today.
2. vCIOToolbox for advisory and risk requirements
vCIOToolbox describes QBR/TBR, GRC and account-management capabilities. It belongs on the shortlist when risk discussions and advisory reviews are both part of the service being replaced.
Use a risk that the client has accepted temporarily. Ask how the team would revisit it at the next review, distinguish acceptance from resolution and identify the person responsible for follow-up. Decide which evidence must travel with that record.
Validate: the actual workflow against your service obligations. The vCIOToolbox alternatives guide separates advisory and specialist GRC requirements in more detail.
3. Strategy Overview for assessment-to-initiative planning
Strategy Overview describes assessments, initiatives, roadmaps and budgets. Consider it when the evaluation centers on turning technical findings into an understandable client plan.
Bring two findings that would be addressed by the same project. Ask the presenter to show one coherent initiative without losing either technical reason for it. Then move that initiative to another quarter and inspect the implications for the budget discussion.
Validate: whether your team can preserve enough history to explain why priorities changed. Read our Strategy Overview alternatives guide for a related planning checklist.
4. myITprocess for standards-led reviews
myITprocess focuses on technology alignment and strategic planning. Evaluate it when consistent standards across clients are the foundation of your advisory process.
Take one standard that applies differently to two clients. Ask the reviewer to explain the difference while keeping a consistent underlying process. A useful trial should reveal how much judgment belongs to the advisor and how much is captured in the system.
Validate: the effort required to recreate your standards, exceptions and review cadence. See the myITprocess alternatives guide for the broader shortlist.
Test a migration before choosing a replacement
Use a small but representative pilot rather than a clean demonstration account:
- Include a completed assessment, an incomplete assessment and a disputed score.
- Retain the evidence, date and rationale needed to explain each important finding.
- Ask a second advisor to prepare the next review without help from the original author.
- Identify any project or time-entry workflows that need another destination.
- Confirm export formats, access permissions and migration assistance with the vendor.
If the priority is what happens after the recommendation, book an MSPortal demo using your current client scenario. Check the integration directory and pricing against the specific scope you plan to move.
